A pavlova is a light, fluffy and sweet dessert but it usually takes hours to prepare.

While the meringue mixture is quick to whip up, getting that mallowy inside means it needs a long time in the oven on a low heat.

But one woman has found a way to cook the treat in just 20 minutes – by using an air fryer.

The Australian mum posted in the Share Kmart air fryer recipes Australia Facebook group about the idea.

Although we don’t have Kmart stores in the UK so can’t pick up the model of air fryer that has taken Oz by storm, you can buy lots of other versions of the device here.

It works by using a concentrated heat source at the top and a powerful fan to cook food quickly and make it crisp. The aim is usually to cook food without lots of oil, but in this case, it makes the pavlova process much faster.

For the pavolva itself, you need eggs whites, caster sugar, cornflour and white vinegar, plus cream and whatever you want on top.

To prevent it sticking, you need to line the air fryer with foil and baking paper.

Once you turn the fryer on, it needs 20 minutes to cook and another 20 minutes to cool.

Ingredients:

  • 4 egg whites
  • 1 Cup Caster Sugar
  • 3 tsp Cornflour
  • 1 tsp white vinegar
  • Full cream and toppings of choice

Method:

  1. Beat the egg whites until combined then slowly add the caster sugar, fold through cornflour and add the white vinegar.
  2. Line 5.3L air fryer with tin foil and baking paper.
  3. Even spread on baking paper and bake in air fryer at 150 degrees for 20 minutes.
  4. Once finished slightly open the air fryer draw and let sit for another 20 minutes.
  5. Top with cream and toppings of choice.
