Parents are going crazy for these Elf on the Shelf isolation houses with quarantine countdowns

There’s going to be a lot of extra conversations to have with little ones this year; explaining how Santa can travel socially distanced around the world and deliver presents, and how Rudolph can come in and eat a carrot in a stranger’s house without sanitising.

If your family does Elf on the Shelf each year, this add-on could be a great way to help kids get used to a festive new normal.

Canada-based crafter Moonlight Creations shared photos of the ‘isolation houses’ she’d made and sells locally, and parents have been praising the idea.

A large jar is given a festive spin with some paint and snow inside, and Moonlight Creations even made a tiny little mask to ensure your elf stays safe.

On the back, nine days are painted so you can count down the quarantine time, after which your playful scamp can come out and wreak havoc.

Unfortunately Moonlight Creations don’t ship and only sell locally, but they did confirm that they used a 1.25 litre mason jar to make the isolation house, so you could definitely recreate it yourself.

For the uninitiated, Elf on the Shelf is a Christmas toy which you place in different areas and positions around the home at night to show children Santa’s elves are watching.

People have come up with great pranks involving the mischievous elves, and choosing where you put them (whether they’ve cleaned out the sweet cupboard or are lurking in a quiet spot) can make a great festive tradition for the family.

Other parents share their creative ideas and pop their pictures on social media to join in the fun.
