Summer is just around the corner, which means scone season is almost upon us.

Of course, scones can be enjoyed all year round, but tucking into them during a picnic or at a summer afternoon tea is the best way to do it.

A proper scone features sweet, sticky jam and thick clotted cream and if these components are homemade, even better.

The good news is that a mum has revealed a simple way to make clotted cream at home and it requires just two things: some double cream and a slow cooker.

The mum posted her technique in the Facebook group Crockpot/Slow Cooker Recipes & Tips, where she shared some snaps of her creamy creation, with the caption: ‘Clotted cream in the making hopefully cream tea tomorrow afternoon.’

She later posted a video of her spooning the cream onto a scone before the jam (the Devonshire style rather than the Cornwall way).

Her easy method includes pouring double cream into ramekins and putting them in the slow cooker on a low setting for about 12 hours.

Afterwards, place the ramekins in the fridge to cool for 12 hours – then the teatime treat is ready.

Naturally, the super-simple technique caught the attention of foodies in the group, who were keen to try it out for themselves.

One person replied to the post: ‘Will have to give this a try… cream teas will be had.’

While another commented: ‘Oh my gosh I had no idea that’s how you made it!!’.

Someone else added: ‘This looks amazing and I have a feeling it’ll be taking over the fudge fad!’
