When it comes to storing chocolate, there are two different camps – the fridge fans and the cupboard lovers.
But Cadbury has nestled in on the topic, confirming (once and for all) where chocolate should be kept.
The confectionery company settled the debate on Twitter, after it was asked the question directly.
Cadbury explained: ‘Chocolate should always be stored in a slightly cool, dry, dark place such as cupboard or pantry at temperatures less than 21°C to ensure the quality isn’t compromised.’
So bad news for those who prefer their choccy chilled.
The reply came after a Twitter user named Bruno Bouchet created a ‘definitive’ list of what belongs in the fridge and cupboard.
He said: ‘The 100% accurate and definitive list of what does and does NOT go in the fridge. Don’t bother commenting, this isn’t up for discussion #TheListKing.’
Bruno placed chocolate in the cupboard, along with soy sauce, eggs and vegetables.
But, due to the varied response, he decided to tweet Cadbury directly, asking: ‘Yo @CadburyAU … what’s the definitive ruling on chocolate storage? Fridge or room temp?’
Cadbury Australia’s reply matched Bruno’s thesis.
Naturally, the list sparked a huge debate on Twitter, with many disagreeing with Bruno and Cadbury’s statements.
One person said: ‘Chocolate barely survives the car trip home let alone storage outside a fridge on days with temperature over 28°C. Mandatory refrigeration during summer.’
While another replied: ‘I’m sorry, but cold hard chocolate is elite. Won’t hear otherwise.’
Others were quick to point out that they wanted a response from Cadbury UK, rather than Cadbury Australia.
Bruno’s list also controversially puts peanut butter and extra virgin olive oil in the fridge, whereas butter and champagne are placed in the pantry.
