Law & Order: Special Victims Unit fans have been left flabbergasted by the number of huge A-list actors who have had cameo roles.

Launched in 1999, the first Law & Order spin-off follows elite detectives investigating dark crimes such as domestic violence and human trafficking in New York.

While the main cast includes the likes of Mariska Hargitay as captain Olivia Benson, in the 25 years since it landed on our screens the police procedural has welcomed dozens of Hollywood icons.

Among those who have been on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit are Girls actor Adam Driver, The Hunger Games’ Elizabeth Banks, Mean Girls icon Amanda Seyfried, and the late legend Robin Williams.

In one particularly starry episode, a young Bradley Cooper acted alongside the late Angela Lansbury and Spider-Man actor Alfred Molina, which left fan Lucy Ford on X ‘levitating.’

‘Watched 3 episodes tonight. One had Lea Thompson in it the other had Viola Davis and the other had James Hong. I love this show,’ Lucy added.

Agreeing Alex Thornber added: ‘There is not a single episode without someone amazing in it for like a split second.’

Jessica Marshall also heaped praise on Law & Order: SVU for the ‘insane’ casting, while X account Thushan_Silva described it as ‘pretty loaded.’

‘Every time I watch an episode of Law & Order: SVU, I find myself impressed by how stacked the cast of guest actors is. One episode has Bradley Cooper, Alfred Molina AND Angela Lansbury. Another you have Martin Short play a psychic who turns out to be a killer. It’s insane,’ Jessica exclaimed.

Other huge Law & Order: SVU guest stars include Orange is the New Black star Laverne Cox, comedian Kathy Griffin, Dune star Kyle MacLachlan, and Sex and the City queen Cynthia Nixon.

Snoop Dogg, meanwhile, starred in a 2019 episode that sees the team investigate after a pop star is assaulted in her home. The Next Episode rapper played a musician.

As well as casting global icons, Law & Order: SVU counts several among its fans – most notably, Taylor Swift, who even named her cat after main character Olivia Benson.

Over in the UK, fans have been equally surprised by the abundance of big name stars who cut their acting teeth on Casualty.

The likes of Titance legend Kate Winslet, Pirates of the Caribbean star Orlando Bloom, Doctor Who’s Christopher Eccleston, The Office actor Martin Freeman and Loki’s Tom Hiddleston have all appeared on the soap.

Stars Wars’ Daisy Ridley, Avengers actor Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Little Britain comedian David Walliams also got one of their first showbiz breaks on Casualty.

Law & Order: Special Victims Unit is available to stream on Netflix.
