Netflix fans have declared they are in a ‘chokehold’ after the series Monk was released.
The American comedy-drama detective TV series first hit screens in 2002 and ran until 2009, with 125 episodes broadcast over eight seasons.
It followed Adrian Monk (Tony Shalhoub), a private detective with obsessive-compulsive disorder and multiple phobias, and his assistants Sharona Fleming (Bitty Schram) and Natalie Teeger (Traylor Howard).
The lead character worked with the San Francisco Police Department in solving unconventional cases while also investigating his wife’s unsolved murder.
Throughout its run the series was a critical success, winning eight Emmy Awards, one Golden Globe Award, and two Screen Actors Guild Awards.
It also held the record for the most-watched scripted drama episode in cable television history from 2009 to 2012 for its series finale with 9.4 million viewers, which was eventually broken by The Walking Dead.
When discovering all episodes were now available to watch on the streaming platform, people couldn’t help but share their excitement.
‘Omg they put Monk on Netflix I’m about to have a ball,’ user Toni posted on X.
‘Yoooooo who remembers MONK the tv series???? It’s on Netflix and I’m watching everything over. Brings back so much memories,’ Tamara shared.
‘Monk has me in a chokehold since Friday. Thank you Netflix,’ Jonelle added.
Another joked ‘there goes my sleep pattern for the next three weeks’.
Following the success of the TV series Peacock ordered a Monk follow-up film, titled Mr. Monk’s Last Case: A Monk Movie.
The main cast returned for the movie, which was released in December last year.
Since 2006, during the airing of season four, Lee Goldberg, a writer for the series, also produced a series of novels based on the original series.
The last, Mr. Monk and the New Lieutenant, was released in 2015.
Shalhoub has since appeared in The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Nurse Jackie, The Blacklist and Central Park.
Monk is now streaming on Netflix.
