Young Sheldon fans predict heartbreaking end ahead of season 7 finale

Young Sheldon fans have got their thinking caps on ahead of the series finale, with some devastating predictions for the Cooper family.

The sitcom, a prequel to the Big Bang Theory, launched in 2017 and saw Iain Armitage in the main role of a young Sheldon Cooper, alongside Zoe Perry, Annie Potts, Montana Jordan, Raegan Revord and Lance Barber.

Last November, TV bosses confirmed the show would be coming to an end at the end of season seven, which hit our screens earlier this month.

Following the announcement, Reddit users have taken the opportunity to predict what would go down before the final credits roll, and whether it could link to the original show.

Although details on the plots are under wraps, Sheldon previously revealed on the Big Bang Theory that his dad, George (Lance), died when he was a teenager, leading many to question whether the finale could be a tear-jerker.

Traditional-Pen585 suggested: ‘The episode ends with George’s death, or a special moment with the family and then George dies off screen. Then older Sheldon (Jim Parsons) ends it with a narration, sharing that this entire series was him making a tribute to his father, something he was never able to do when he was younger.’

OnlyTheBLats89 commented: ‘George hints at having chest pain. Instead of draging out the sad part, we get a montage.

‘Sheldon pretends he is emotionless but the truth is he shut down that part of his brain so he didn’t have to feel sad anymore. He exaggerated how dumb and useless his father is as a way to lie to himself that he doesn’t mis him.

‘There were lots of things he wanted to tell his dad but won’t get the chance. George’s last words will be “I love you” [sic].’

As MrVerdu_FIFA added: ‘At George Sr.’s funeral, Sheldon swears to achieve what Sr. wanted for him: be a less arrogant adult, with friends, and achieve everything there is to achieve in science and to have a nice time doing it.

‘Old Sheldon monologues as he goes to Caltech, and in his dorm, he meets his roommate. As his roommate cries, “Hello, I’m Leonard!”, the screen cuts to black.’

They might be onto something there…

Steve Holland, the executive producer of Young Sheldon, previously shed light about the final episodes, confirming George’s death will be addressed – so fans might need to stock up on their tissues beforehand.

‘I don’t want to say what you will or won’t see, but things will get addressed,’ he told TVLine.

‘We are not beholden to every joke that was ever made on The Big Bang Theory, but we do feel beholden to the larger canon and the larger events that shape Sheldon’s life.’

Discussing whether they considered changing the timeline up so that the plot wasn’t included, he vowed: ‘Absolutely not.

‘That is a thing that happens in Sheldon’s life. This is the same character [from Big Bang]. We are living in the same universe as Big Bang and that sort of world building is important. Big things that [adult Sheldon said] happened in his life without a doubt happened.’

The finale will air on May 16, meaning there is still time to stock up on tissues.

Young Sheldon airs on Thursdays on CBS.
