The Traitors Australia star admits producers encouraged her to fake a pivotal scene

The Traitors Australia star Camille Chicheportiche has revealed she was asked to re-film a game-changing scene after getting too excited.

On the most recent second season of the Australian series, former Federal Agent Camille blindsided fellow Traitors Sam and Blake when making the decision to ‘Steal’ the final cash prize, which left them all going home empty-handed.

In jaw-dropping scenes, Blake broke down in tears while Sam took aim at his former teammate, who he declared should have ‘let us have’ the money before saying she didn’t need it because she was ‘rich’.

Despite knowing she was going to be backstabbed in the end, Camille knew how she wanted her time on the show to come to a close.

Throughout the series the Faithful’s had struggled to single out and banish the group of Traitors, so when it came to being recruited, Camille didn’t think twice.

However, she’s now shared that her reaction wasn’t quite what the crew were expecting, so they asked her to tone it down.

In episode 7 of the show, it was late at night when an envelope was slid under Camille’s door, and she read out a letter asking her to join the Traitor team.

In the scene that went to air, she looked taken aback and responded: ‘You’ve got to be joking me.’

‘My heart is beating so hard,’ she whispered, before it was revealed she’d accepted the offer.

However, six months on from the show airing in Australia, Camille has explained what really happened in that moment.

Speaking to Metro.co.uk, she explained what her reaction had been when she was given the choice to switch sides.

‘I not once considered turning it down,’ she said.

‘And that was the only time the producers had a “can you re-do that” moment.

‘When I read that letter, I was like “yes yes yes” but they asked me to be a tiny bit suspenseful as they thought it was probably going to be used for the end of an episode.

‘So, I was a bit more suspenseful and that was the only thing I’ve ever had to re-do.’

Although Camille’s background might have appeared to assist her gameplay, she insisted no job can prepare contestants for what they are faced with.

‘Producers kept asking me a lot about my job, but I’d be like no background helps you,’ she said.

‘It doesn’t matter if you are a psychologist, teacher or cop, no background matters.

‘I would only say there was something about remaining calm and thinking on your feet but overall, as an investigative skill no way. In real life we have help from other experts, so it’s totally different to a game like The Traitors.’

Reflecting on her time on the show, Camille believes viewers didn’t get to see the ‘real me’.

‘There was the narrative about my federal agent background, and I was a kick ass no-nonsense one…but the reason I actually went on the show was because that I am a treasure hunter and wanted to hunt silver bars and bring that home but they didn’t run with that narrative.’

‘Although no-one got to hear my true testimonials, I think that gave maximum impact to that final mic-drop moment.’

The Traitors Australia is streaming on BBC iPlayer.
