Robin Windsor’s final trip before his death weeks later took a turn as something ‘truly awful’ happened to him while abroad.

The former Strictly Come Dancing professional had been sharing snaps of his new job as a dancer for a luxury cruise, taking him to places like Madagascar and South Africa.

On Tuesday it was announced that the dancer had died aged 44, leading to an outpouring of love from Strictly stars and other TV legends.

His shock passing comes weeks after he had taken a ‘dream’ trip over New Year’s which had turned sour according to a friend.

Windsor had called up his friend while staying in Cape Town, sounding ‘traumatised’ and tearful over an incident.

‘He kept saying that something had happened over New Year but he wouldn’t say what it was,’ the source told MailOnline.

While they tried to get Windsor to explain he refused, and the friend added: ‘He sounded absolutely traumatised – whatever had happened must have been truly awful.’

However, they also shared that the dancer wasn’t ready to return home yet from his ‘dream’ trip, where he would then spend his last weeks dancing on a cruise.

He had been keeping fans updated on his travels, posting snaps of his stay in a safari lodge with wild elephants, giraffes, lions and a warthog in January.

In the same month, he took to Instagram to share: ‘Big shout out and love to everyone who’s reached out and checked in the last week. Sorry I have not replied… it’s been a bit of a trying time and things are looking up. Robin.’
