Primark is making a major change to a number of its stores

They say the high street is dying, but one brand that’s continuing to rake in the cash is Primark.

The cut-price clothing and homeware store is one of the few brands that doesn’t sell all its products online, meaning customers have to show up in-person if they want to get a good deal. And they do. In droves.

There’s already 192 Primark stores across the UK, but a number of them are set to have a huge upgrade as part of the company’s £100 million investment plan.

Specifically, the Oxford Street, Hackney, and Hounslow Primark stores in London are all set to have exciting facelifts — including new decor, store fixtures, and LED lighting — but it’s the Westfield Primark in Stratford that we’re really excited about.

Namely, because it is set to be doubled in size to a behemoth 81,000 sq ft. This will make it the second-biggest Primark in the UK, dwarfed only by the Birmingham Primark at 161,000 sq. ft.

In 2025, we are also set to get a new Primark just outside of London in Epsom — and it isn’t a small one either, with the company revealing that it will measure a whopping 55,000 square feet.

And that’s not all, several other new Primark stores are opening.

Further afield from London, the bargain retailer will be setting up shop in Bury St. Edmunds, Teesside Park and Glasgow Fort, bringing the total number of Primark stores in 2024 to 195.

Kari Rodgers, UK Retail Director at Primark said: ‘We’ve changed a lot in the fifty years since we opened the doors on our first store in Great Britain in Derby back in 1974, but at our heart, we are still the same.

‘We’re as committed as ever to offering the very best value on the high street and making great fashion more affordable and accessible for everyone. This latest investment will mean bigger and better stores, hundreds of new jobs across the country and shows our ongoing commitment to the UK high street.’

This comes after it was revealed that a surprising high street store is attempting to give Primark a run for its money.

Matalan has revealed it’s lowering the price of hundreds of items, with average prices falling by an impressive 15% across the shop’s everyday family essentials – which include clothes and furnishings.

For example, women’s zip-up hoodies have been cut from £15 to £12.50 and boys’ hoodies from £13 to £10, while a pair of men’s straight cut jeans are £10, down from £11.

To compare, the cheapest women’s hoody (non-sale) available on the Primark website is the Essentials Zip-Through Hoodie for £8, and the cheapest pair of men’s Straight Leg Jeans cost £9.

Matalan’s popular beddings sets have also been reduced by £3 across single, double and king sizes. A grey single duvet set at Matalan currently costs £10, while a similar grey set at Primark is £7.
