Viewers of The Masked Singer UK reckon they’ve sussed out Air Fryer’s identity thanks to an old clip.
Yes, in case you weren’t caught up there is, in fact, an actual Air Fryer participating in the 2024 series – and fans think it’s Alison Hammond underneath the mask.
A video of the This Morning gem, 48, showcasing her impressive vocal talents has resurfaced, and now people can only hear her voice when they listen to Air Fryer sing.
Sharing the Stars In Their Eyes clip on social media, one Masked Singer fan noted how similar Alison and Air Fryer’s voices sounded, using a clip of her singing jazz while playing piano back in the day as proof.
‘AIR FRYER? Proof Of Alison Hammond Singing Voice #MaskedSinger #MaskedSingerUK’, their post read.
There’s no denying Alison can carry a tune, as she effortlessly played her way through My Baby Just Cares for Me by Nina Simone.
Reacting to the clip, X user LenzoToggz said they were ‘shook to the core’, having previously had no idea of Alison’s singing talents.
‘Ooh good shout!’, replied Sam Coley.
‘She sounds really good’, praised Carl Stanley.
Not everyone was so convinced Air Fryer had a connection to Alison, though, given that she’s appeared on The Masked Singer before.
In 2022, she disguised herself as Witchetty Grub for an I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! special of the programme.
The judges – Rita Ora, Mo Gilligan, Davina McCall, and Jonathan Ross – were stunned when her mask came off, never once expecting Alison’s voice to be the one they were listening to.
Bringing her prior Masked Singer experience to light, X user Jade Hill said: ‘She did the Jungle special a few years back’.
‘She’s already been on in 22’, said O_Pebbles.
So, does this rule Alison out?
Or does it, in contrast, actually make her more of a candidate for Air Fryer?
Time will tell…
Until the big reveal, there are plenty of theories flying around after Air Fryer wowed with their debut performance of Kings & Queens by Ava Max.
While no one guess has stuck so far, some big names have been thrown into the mix.
Rita believes Jessie J could be behind the costume, while Davina has guessed soap star Jacqueline Jossa.
Going completely left-field, Jonathan proposed RuPaul (yeah, really), while Mo said it could be Scarlett Moffatt.
As for the clues, so far they’re pretty vague.
Air Fryer’s clue package made plenty of references to food and cooking, perhaps suggesting a link to a celebrity chef.
They also made references to ‘sparkles’, alluding to past Strictly Come Dancing experience, and were seen with hairdressing scissors.
When the time came for them to recite a riddle for the panel, they said: ‘My voice is well known, but I once needed help from a girl from Chigwell.’
‘Twas the Chigwell connection that prompted Jessie J speculation, but with Air Fryer’s mask still firmly on and only two contestants unmasked thus far – Dionne Warwick and Alexander Armstrong – we’ll have to wait to find out who’s actually underneath.
The Masked Singer continues on Saturday at 7pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
