Paddy McGuinness responds to accusations he’s openly swearing in TV advert

Paddy McGuinness has been forced to clarify he is not actually swearing like a trooper in his TV advert.

The Top Gear star, 50, voices the On The Beach adverts which shows families celebrating sun holidays year-round.

In the ad, Paddy declares the travel company ‘booking geniuses’ – but quite a few people have misheard, thinking he’s saying… well, something that certainly shouldn’t be airing before the watershed.

On X, user John McMullen said it ‘definitely sounds like Paddy McGuinness saying ‘f*****g geniuses’ and not ‘booking genius,’ while Lucy Young said the ad ‘shocks me every time, pretty sure he isn’t saying booking geniuses!’

There are countless more posts accusing Paddy of sneaking in a cheeky swear into the advert, but the dad-of-three is having none of it – and has now come out to set the record straight.

In a video to Instagram, the former Take Me Out host started off by acknowledging a lot of people were asking him ‘are you swearing?’

‘Just to clear this up, it’s booking geniuses, not effing geniuses – as in book with on the Beach and you get free lounge access and all the perks, that’s the whole idea. Not effing geniuses!’

He went on: ‘You can’t say effing geniuses on the telly.’

Paddy finished by cheerily telling those complaining about the apparent swearing to ‘book off.’

The star has had an exciting start to the year so far, after 2023 proved difficult as he and wife Christine McGuinness continued getting to grips with single life after splitting the year before.

As he continues to co-parent Leo, eight, Penelope, eight, and Felicity, five, Paddy is reported to be a favourite to host a classic gameshow returning to TV after 29 years off air.

Iconic ITV show Bullseye is said to be making a return, with bosses eyeing up Paddy to front a reboot after interest in darts shot up thanks to 16-year-old Luke Littler’s became an overnight sensation.

The dartboard quiz game, which first hit screens in 1981 and ran for 41 years, tests contestants’ dark skills as well as their general knowledge.

It returned to screens in 2006 on Challenge TV but was scrapped after two series.

‘ITV is already in discussions to bring back Bullseye after this year’s final drew in the event’s highest viewership in history,’ an insider told The Sun.

‘It’s early days, but ITV thinks it could be hugely successful.’

‘They think Paddy, with his Lancashire roots like Jim, would be the perfect person to host.’
