Love Island bosses have reportedly changed the format of the ITV show to prevent Maya Jama from unnecessary flights.
It is claimed ITV was left ‘mortified’ after the former BBC Radio One presenter made frequent trips back home to the UK from South Africa during filming last year.
This is said to include a 12,000-mile roundtrip for Maya and her ‘glam squad’ so that she could present just 10 minutes of Love Island, sparking concern among producers over the show’s carbon footprint.
Now, it has been reported that ITV bosses have tweaked the show which effectively bans Maya from flying back while the show is on air.
A source told the Daily Mail: ‘ITV was mortified when it became apparent Maya had been jetting across the globe with her hairdresser, make-up artist and stylist.
‘This year there is no chance of her being able to go anywhere.’
A spokesperson for ITV told Metro.co.uk: ‘Love Island aims to achieve the highest standards of sustainability both on and off screen and our efforts have been recognised by achieving Bafta’s ‘albert Certification’ standard, which is a requirement for all ITV shows.”
‘We are entirely committed to tackling climate change and championing sustainability, and we always seek to influence our audience on how to live life in a sustainable way, through initiatives such as our pre-loved fashion partnership and reusable water bottles.”
‘Additionally, this series, the Love Island Villa location generates its own electricity via solar panels and wherever possible we use local crews and local suppliers to lower our carbon footprint.’
Maya frequently shares her flight antics with her 3M Instagram followers, including the delicious meals she fuels herself with on a long-haul trip.
Last October, she also shared the most heartwarming welcome back home ever from her boyfriend Stormzy, who picked up her from the airport after she had been away.
A short clip posted on Maya’s Instagram showed the Vossi Bop waiting beside his car clutching onto a picture of her bombshell Dolce & Gabbana fashion campaign and a sign that read ‘Maya Jama #1 fan’.
Maya is currently presenting spin-off Love Island: All Stars, which has seen former Islanders, including Georgia Steel, return to the villa for another shot attrue love.
Maya’s rep declined to comment when approached by Metro.co.uk. ITV has also been contacted for this article.
Love Island All Stars continues tomorrow at 9pm on ITV and ITVX.
