Legendary DJ Black Coffee is receiving treatment after being involved in an accident.
The Grammy-winning South African musician, real name Nkosinathi Maphumulo, was on a flight due to land in Argentina when a ‘severe travel accident’ occurred.
A statement from his team has now assured fans that he is ‘recovering’ but that he experienced ‘complications’ and ‘injuries’ in the crash.
In a message posted to the 42-year-old’s Instagram account, his team wrote: ‘Black Coffee was involved in a severe travel accident on a flight en route to his scheduled show in Mar Del Playa.
‘The incident resulted in unforeseen complications and left him with some injuries.’
They went on to write that Coffe is ‘receiving the best possible medical attention and he is surrounded by a supportive family and team.’
‘Despite the challenges presented, Black Coffee is optimistic and recovering well.
‘He looks forward to being back with you all very soon.’
The statement did not go into detail on the accident, however an incident report on website AeroInside reports a crash at Mar del Plata on January 6 this year.
It states a Flybondi Boeing 737-800 from Buenos Aires ‘touched down hard’ on the runway ‘suffered a tail strike.’
There were no reported injuries at the time, but the ‘aircraft sustained substantial damage’ and an investigation was opened.
Coffee had been due to perform at the Mute club in Mar Del Playa but was unable to perform.
His career began in the 90s and skyrocketed through the decades, with the DJ and producer bringing out nine studio albums as well as a live DBD.
He was awarded a Grammy in 2022, winning the best dance/electronic music album for his record Subconsciously.
Reps for Black Coffee have been contacted for comment.
