After almost two years and a ‘dragged out’ process, Helen Skelton is officially divorced from rugby ace ex Richie Myler.
The former Strictly star has kept fairly quiet about their split, which began with a separation in April 2022, but did address her ‘shock’ in her new autobiography.
Helen, 40, announced her former Leeds Rhinos husband was leaving the marital home just four months after they welcomed their third child together.
It was then in August 2023 that legal documents to formally divorce were issued, after Richie, 33, welcomed a baby with his new partner Stephanie Thirkill.
According to the MailOnline, a source confirmed the pair were officially split as of December.
They said: ‘Helen and Richie are legally divorced. Their marriage was declared over at the end of December, so finally both parties can move on and start the New Year afresh.’
Sources close to Richie accused Helen of ‘dragging her heels’, forcing him to wait for her signature on the court approved decree nisi stating they could split.
This was claimed to be in an attempt to postpone any proposal he was planning to make to his girlfriend, who is the daughter of Rhinos president Andrew Thirkill.
Previously, a source claimed the England rugby star was hoping to move on with his life and left confused by the delay.
The couple had been married for nearly 10 years when they announced the split, in a statement which read: ‘Very sad to say that Richie and I are no longer a couple.
‘He has left the family home. We will be doing our best to co-parent our small children.’
Together the couple have three children; Ernie, eight, Louis, six, and Elsie, two.
Comments on the split have been few and far between from the couple themselves but the Countryfile star did give a little insight in her autobiography.
In her book, In My Stride, Helen wrote: ‘I was in shock. I know that following break-ups, people often say they didn’t see it coming and it sounds like a cliché, but that was me.’
She added in hindsight it may have been work, children, and their house renovation project could have ‘consumed her’ and led her to miss ‘signs’ of her marriage not working.
Helen also ruminated that she might have just ‘ignored’ indications of the relationship failing.
In the wake of the split, the TV presenter decided to step back from hosting her BBC Radio 5 show on Sunday morning, which she had taken over from former Love Island host Laura Whitmore.
Helen said: ‘I’m not all right about it but you know, needs must. The juggle is real. An eight-year-old with a sideline needs me.’
