Alec Baldwin has been charged with involuntary manslaughter for a second time, following the death of Halyna Hutchins.

The 65-year-old was holding a gun when it accidentally discharged on the set of Rust, in 2021, resulting in the cinematographer’s fatal injuries.

He has always insisted that he was unaware that the weapon was loaded, and maintained his innocence.

In a statement, Baldwin’s legal team said: ‘We look forward to our day in court.’

If convicted, the dad-of-seven could face up to 18 months in prison.

The Hollywood star accidentally shot and killed Hutchins on the set of the Western film in October, 2021.

Director Joel Souza was also injured in the incident but was released from hospital shortly after.

Last January, the 30 Rock actor was initially charged involuntary manslaughter and pleaded not guilty, but this was dismissed without prejudice a few months later.

Prosecutors had stated that there was always a possibility that charges could be refiled.

‘After extensive investigation over the past several months, additional facts have come to light that we believe show Mr Baldwin has criminal culpability in the death of Halyna Hutchins and the shooting of Joel Souza,’ special prosecutors Kari Morrissey and Jason Lewis said in October.

‘We believe the appropriate course of action is to permit a panel of New Mexico citizens to determine from here whether Mr Baldwin should be held over for criminal trial.’

Production on Rust was paused pending an investigation into Hutchins’ death and picked back up last April – but filming was moved from New Mexico to Montana.

Baldwin and Souza returned to complete the film, but it is not clear when the finished product will be released.

Taking to social media at the time, the star said: ‘I’m grateful for all of the support I have received here.’

Souza also thanked the Yellowstone Film Ranch in a statement to the Hollywood Reporter.

‘Their unwavering friendship, support, and now partnership in completing Rust and honoring Halyna means the world to me and our entire production team,’ it read.

‘The beauty of Montana surpasses words, and the warm hospitality and kindness extended by everyone I’ve met has been both humbling and inspiring.

‘It is a privilege to work with such great partners as we see this through on Halyna’s behalf.’
