Doctor Who is back on screens in a very special Christmas episode, with all eyes on new timelord Ncuti Gatwa and companion Millie Gibson.

Fans were instantly loving the pair’s dynamic in The Church on Ruby Road but one cameo role attracted viewers’ attention.

Davina McCall starred as herself in the festive episode, helping Millie’s Ruby Sunday search for her long lost mother after being left as a baby on Christmas Eve.

Unfortunately for the iconic presenter, she got swept up in the goblin troubles and tragically fell foul of a tampered with Christmas tree.

After getting whacked on her head by a flying plug and breaking bones in a series of curious accidents, Davina was squished by a giant tree while breaking bad news to the new companion.

‘Oh no, not Davina 😆,’ shared viewer Madge on X, while a user going by Gag City Era exclaimed: ‘Not they killed mother Davina?’

The Darling Moon was having none of it as they asked: ‘DID THEY JUST KILL DAVINA?!’

‘What the HELL?! Did they just kill Davina??? That is NOT ok!’ added Rachel Gam.

Fred Rochez shared: ‘Wait, have they just killed off Davina McCall? My Mum’ll be thrilled; she inexplicably hates her.’

Poor Davina – murdered by a Christmas tree and Fred’s mum’s number one enemy.

Lucky for the Big Brother legend, The Doctor is a time traveller and managed to save her life after destroying the goblin ship.

Fans were utterly relieved ‘mother’ was saved and Ncuti cooly said: ‘Merry ChristmasDavina McCall.’

‘Omg we didn’t get davinacide love that,’ said user painted violet while Kirsty said: ‘He saved Davina too what a legend.’

Martha added: ‘For a second I thought Davina McCall was gonna be canonically dead in the doctor who universe.’

Ncuti and Millie’s dynamic instantly won over viewers, who were praising the episode for it’s fun filled moments and a ‘realness’ to Ruby.

The ‘chaotic duo’ and their insanely good chemistry was a hit, giving a promising hint at the upcoming season.

Speaking at a special Q&A, the newly bi-regenerated Doctor shared his thoughts on being cast as the iconic time lord

Ncuti said: ‘The role of the doctor is everything. They’re an explorer that has been around for a billion years and so they have so many quirks and intricacies and rage and joy.

‘They’re just full of the whole kaleidoscope of emotion so to pick what I was going to bring out differently, it’s a very hard question so I guess just myself. I guess I bring my black and beautiful self.’

Doctor Who’s Christmas episode is available to watch on BBC iPlayer and DisneyPlus now
