Amy will be joining us today along with Katie to talk about how she is doing and how the family is coping.

Katie Price’s mother, Amy Price, has shared how her lung transplant has affected her life as she lives with a terminal diagnosis.

The 71-year-old is mum to former glamour model Katie, 45, and grandmother to Katie’s five children Harvey Price, Junior Andre, Princess Andre, Jett Hayler and Bunny Hayler.

She is also mum to daughter Sophie and son Dan, and last November underwent a single lung transplant without telling her children as she didn’t want them to say their goodbyes.

Amy suffers from terminal lung condition idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, and while the lung transplant has changed her life, she initially became extremely ill, previously revealing she died and had to be brought back to life, before slipping into a coma.

Now, a year later, Amy described her health as being ‘up and down’ in a conversation with The Daily Star and other press.

Explaining the ‘weather has an impact on my breathing,’ she said she currently cannot go outside without a face mask as the weather ‘literally takes my breath away’.

While she’s ‘had a few setbacks’ and can’t work out outside, she is keeping fit by going to the gym for spin classes – which can be difficult as she gets ‘breathless,’ but ‘if I don’t exercise, I won’t move forward… I’ve got to exercise to get [the lung transplant] working.’

The TV personality released her memoir, The Last Word, this summer, which shares her experience of being mum to Katie, and is donating the proceeds to charities.

She shared her frightening experience of ‘dying’ on the operating table in an episode of the Katie Price Show podcast, where she was asked how many times she had died.

Amy clarified it was ‘only the once,’ and while she can’t remember it, she was apparently ‘shouting out, “I can’t breathe, I can’t breathe.”’

She said she believed this was happening in the middle of her operation, and recalled thinking to herself that if she did die, she could be at peace with it.

‘I thought: You know, if I go … Sophie’s alright, Kate will sort herself out, Dan’s alright… it’s okay to go.

‘I felt everything was falling in place, and I could just go.’

Katie then revealed excitedly: ‘And guess what – drumrolls – she didn’t go and she’s lived to tell the tale.’

It was a long road to recovery for her however, as OnlyFans model Katie shared the fear of seeing her mother after the operation.

‘You looked like a blown-up Wotsit,’ Katie declared, adding: ‘You looked like in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Veruca, when she blows up,’ admitting it was terrifying to see.

Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis is a condition in which the lungs become scarred and breathing becomes difficult.

Katie previously revealed that her mum was given a life expectancy of three to five years when she was diagnosed in 2017.
