Princess of Wales stuns fans with surprise cameo at Eurovision 2023 final

The Princess of Wales made an unlikely cameo in the opening of the Eurovision Song Contest 2023 grand final on Saturday night.

In a blink and you’d miss it moment, Kate Middleton was seen playing a short instrumental piece, created by Joe Price and Kojo Samuel, on the piano.

The clip, which only lasted around 10 seconds, had been recorded earlier this month in the Crimson Drawing Room of Windsor Castle, Kensington Palace said.

It’s fair to say fans were more than stunned to see Kate’s appearance.

Taking to Twitter, one person wrote: ‘What alternate universe have I been transported to where the UK is hosting Eurovision year and Kate Middleton is making a cameo in the intro?!’

Another added: ‘Kate Middleton covering stefania on the piano was not on my Eurovision 2023 bingo card but here we are.’

Following the unexpected cameo, the official Twitter account for the Prince and Princess of Wales tweeted: ‘A #Eurovision surprise

‘A pleasure to join Kalush Orchestra in a special performance of last year’s winning @eurovision.’

This year’s Eurovision final is well underway at the M&S Bank Arena in Liverpool.

Chemical Brothers Hey Boy Hey Girl was played as the countries competing walked onto the stage with their national flags.

Former Ukrainian contestants Go_A, Tina Karol, and Jamala, who won for Ukraine in 2016, performed in between the contestants taking part in the flag parade.

After the final contestant, the UK’s Mae Muller walked out onto the stage, the crowd were treated to a performance from Verka Serduchka, who entered the contest for the Ukraine in 2007.
