The finalists of the 2023 series of MasterChef have been revealed.
Four talented chefs fought tooth and nail and showcased some of their greatest culinary skills to get to Wednesday night’s semi-final.
But as things continue to heat up, it was time for one to go home.
Terri, Chariya, Anurag and Omar each gave it their best for judges John Torode and Gregg Wallace, with twists on home favourites including bangers and mash, steak and chips and chicken pie.
But in the end, Terri’s steak and chips failed to wow the judges, and she was sent home after making it all the way to the final four.
Speaking after she failed to reach the final, she admitted she was ‘gutted’ to be going home, but was thinking positively.
‘Without this competition, I wouldn’t have reached the level of cook I am now for years to come. It pushes you to be the best.’
She added: ‘I’m really proud of myself.’
The 30-year-old assistant account manager had previously described making it to the final four as an ‘out of body experience,’ praising the judges as ‘supportive, funny and, most of all, honest.’
Reacting as they learned they had made the final three, 41-year-old accountant Anurag described how he was feeling as ‘beyond happiness.’
Chariya, meanwhile, joked she could already ‘see the glimmer of the trophy.
‘I was standing there having goosebumps,’ she said. ‘I couldn’t believe it. A dream – it was like a dream.’
Omar was reeling from learning he was in the final three, saying: ‘To know you’re going to get to every part of the competition has blown my mind.’
It remains to be seen who will be the lucky one to lift the trophy at the end of the series – and bask in all the recognition, prestige and exposure it brings.
In the past finalists have gone to open their own restaurants or have launched a culinary career.
MasterChef returns Thursday at 8pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer
