If you are looking to bring in the New Year in style, these fun and quirky travel experiences are for you.
If you’re looking for a last minute present for a serial hotel-bathrobe-pincher or feeling so festive you literally want to bathe in mulled wine, this list is for you.
Or if you’re making NYE plans, take a look at Edinburgh’s virtual Hogmanay.
The ME Dubai
Thinking about heading away for some winter sun? If you decide on travel corridor emirate Dubai, you could be staying at one of its most intriguing hotels.
The ME Dubai , near the Burj Khalifa, was fully designed by internationally renowned architect Zaha Hadid before she died in 2016 and the project was brought to completion by her firm.
Characterised by curves, sharp angles and bold materials, it features several restaurants covering cuisine from Mexico to Japan and New England, a secret bar in a walled garden, a state-of-the-art gym, a terrace pool and a luxurious spa.
Bottled air
If loved ones live abroad, how about a nifty gift to relieve homesickness? Relocation website MyBaggage.com has bottled air from the UK’s four nations, for expats to sniff if they need a reminder of home. There are also two limited-edition bottles with air from the London Underground and from a Norfolk fish and chip shop.
Buy it for £25 per bottle at My Baggage.
Mulled wine spa day
We all love to sink a mulled wine or two over Christmas but how about sinking into some instead? SpaSeekers offers a Mulled Wine Spa Day at Shrigley Hall in Cheshire.
It includes a dip in a mulled-wine hot tub, with the orange, cinnamon and star anise providing antioxidants, as well as a heavenly Frankincense massage and a blissful body scrub.
Hotel branded gifts
If you’ve often been tempted to liberate the odd ashtray or ‘mistakenly’ pack a bathrobe at the end of your stay, recreate that five-star feeling, ahem, legally with gifts you can buy from your favourite hotels.
Luxury Highland lodging The Fife Arms has everything from branded notebooks (£9) and Scottish heather honey (£15) to tartan cashmere scarves (£150), while Ireland’s sumptuous Adare Manor has the likes of tempting teddy bears (£80), scented candles (£31) and champagne flutes (£67).

Hogmanay from home
Edinburgh’s famous new year celebrations are available for everyone this year. Hogmanay is moving to an entirely online shindig, with a series of spectacular ‘moments’ to be watched from home.
The line-up includes actor David Tennant, poet Jackie Kay and Celtic fusion band Niteworks. You’ll be able to watch innovative shows every evening from Dec 28 to Jan 1.
