The ultimate comfort food (Picture: Slow Cooker Recipe Tips/Facebook)

Bored of having your batch cooked bolognese in the same way every night – heaped over spaghetti and topped with cheese?

This recipe is here to save you from midweek meal ennui.

A mum has shared her recipe for a garlic bread bolognese bake in the Slow Cooker Recipe Tips Facebook page – and it’s been a major hit, despite some people calling it a monstrosity.

The dinner is not the most aesthetically pleasing dish on the block, but it’s pure comfort food.

It’s made by layering slices of garlic bread on the bottom and sides of a baking tray, then filling with spaghetti bolognese, and finally topping the whole thing with slices of cheese.

If you’re the type who batch cooks a load of portions of bolognese in advance, this’ll be a great way to use it up – or you can quickly knock up the dish from mince, spaghetti, sauce, and garlic bread.

So, how do you make it?

Ingredients:

  • 500g beef mince
  • One jar of spaghetti sauce (red wine and garlic)
  • Three gloves of garlic, chopped
  • Two loaves of garlic bread
  • Parmesan cheese, grated 50-100g
  • Cooked pasta
  • Cheddar cheese slices

Method:

  • Brown mince and garlic on stove top and add to slow cooker with the jar of sauce
  • Cook on high for an hour
  • Remove mince and sauce from slow cooker and put aside. Wash your slow cooker and line with baking paper.
  • Place garlic bread slices on the bottom and sides to form a bowl. Make sure the buttered side is against the baking paper.
  • Sprinkle half of the Parmesan on the garlic bread and then add half of the pasta, then half of the bolognese sauce
  • Add a layer of parmesan, the rest of the pasta, and the last of the bolognese
  • Top with cheddar cheese, then cook on high for an hour

If you don’t have a slow cooker, worry not, as you can easily bake the dish in the oven instead.
