Last year, almost 4,000 children were adopted in the UK.

There is probably someone in your life with experience of adoption – but how much do you really know about it?

To help raise awareness, Metro.co.uk has dedicated October to the subject with news, features, videos and expert advice.

Throughout this month, we’ll also be bringing you the varied points of view of adopters so they can share their experiences in their own words in a series of powerful conversations.

Talking Adoption will see two adoptive parents getting together on Zoom to discuss the realities of adopting, surprises they faced along the way, and how it shaped them as parents and their relationship with their children.

Weekly episodes will premier live on our Facebook page every Thursday at 1:30pm so make sure you’ve liked our page so you don’t miss out.

We’ll have parents revealing what it’s like to adopt children with disabilities, shining a light on the realities of adopting children after struggles with infertility, and lifting the lid on many more important points around adoption.

For our first episode, we’ll be pairing Sarah and Rich who both decided that if they’d not met anyone by a certain age, they’d adopt alone.

Sarah brought her now 13-year-old son home in 2014, while Rich began the process of adopting a four-year-old little boy earlier this year. Both are still single.

What is it really like to adopt as without a partner? Tune into our Facebook page to find out.

Adoption Month

Adoption Month is a month-long series covering all aspects of adoption.

For the next four weeks, which includes National Adoption Week from 14-19 October, we will be speaking to people who have been affected by adoption in some way, from those who chose to welcome someone else's child into their family to others who were that child.

We'll also be talking to experts in the field and answering as many questions as possible associated with adoption, as well as offering invaluable advice along the way.

If you have a story to tell or want to share any of your own advice please do get in touch at adoptionstories@metro.co.uk.
