If you’re paying £620 for an outfit, you probably at least want it to look expensive.
Which is why people are so confused by a Ralph Lauren boilersuit – with an eye-watering price tag – that looks like you would wear it to decorate the spare room.
The designer denim overalls are covered in white and orange paint splatters and muddy knees – to make it look like you have really been getting stuck in with the DIY.
The only hint at high fashion is the glint of a gold zip that keeps the whole thing together.
‘Made from Japanese cotton satin with the reverse side facing out,’ reads the description on the website.
‘Utility pockets. Allover paint splatters.’
The puzzlingly expensive item was posted on a Facebook page and plenty of critics were quick to share their thoughts.
‘Pay to look like you work for a living,’ wrote one woman.
‘Someone will buy this as well,’ said another.
And if you happen to love the painter/decorator aesthetic, this look could be yours. Ralph Lauren are helpfully offering a payment plan for customers who can’t afford the £620 up front.
And the good news is you won’t have to pay for delivery because it costs more than £70.
So really… it’s kind of a bargain.
For the cost of a luxury holiday, you could be walking around looking like you have spent the weekend up-cycling your home office.
But hey, that’s fashion.
