A mum has been applauded for sharing a candid image of her post-partum stomach after giving birth to quadruplets.
Natalie Maree, from Roebourne, in Western Australia, posted two pictures, one where a T-shirt covered her belly and the other revealing her stomach.
The mum-of-five said if she only posted the one with her stomach covered, many would have commented that she looks great for someone who just had quads.
But Natalie wanted to show the reality of a post-partum body, saying that she is proud of the way she looks.
Natalie said that after having the children with her husband Kahn in July, her belly was a reminder of how powerful her body is.
The 30-year-old struggled with fertility for years before she had her firstborn in July 2018.
After being diagnosed with ‘unexplained fertility,’ Natalie needed ovulation induction, where she was injected with regular hormones to stimulate ovulation.
She and Kahn had been told that they may have multiple pregnancies but the parents had never expected quadruplets.
Now Natalie is sharing her life as a mum-of-five on her Instagram, where followers applaud her honesty.
Natalie wrote on the post of the two images: ‘If I only posted the first picture the comments would’ve been along the lines of “you look great for just having quads”.
‘If I only posted the second photo I would’ve received “you should be so proud of what your body has done”.
‘Part of me, and I’m sure many others, wanted to just to post the first photo. The other part of me wants to be real to prevent a false sense of reality.
‘The reality is I grew four miracles in this belly! The reality is I feel beautiful in the first photo!
‘The reality is I am GODDAMN proud of what my body has done and can do! The reality is also I’d be lying to myself and all of you if I said I loved what my belly looks like now.’
Natalie’s followers had words of encouragement to say to her, commenting: ‘You are INCREDIBLE and beautiful. What a wonderful role model you are to your tribe.’
Others wrote: ‘You look amazing for having four humans growing in there,’ and ‘you are incredible’.
Some mums also shared their own stories of post-partum bodies, saying: ‘I’ve never been so damn proud of my body as I have now that it’s grown triplets. I’m pretty okay and accepting of what it looks like, and I’m not ashamed of my stomach’.
