Man holds lavish prank wedding on TfL train complete with drinks, decorations and a violinist

A man has planned and held an entire fake wedding on a TfL train, from the ceremony to the speeches and reception.

Comedy content creator Elvin Mensah posted a video of the event to his YouTube channel, showing the setup, the ceremony and the reception, with the whole thing held in a train carriage.

Elvin decorated the train with garlands of flowers and hired a violinist to set the mood.

He even invited passengers to get in on the festivities and watch the ‘ceremony’.

Before his ‘bride’ walked down the, erm, carriage, Elvin told onlookers in between tannoy interruptions: ‘Me and my bride, we’ve been having Zoom dates and kissing each other through the phone.

‘We’re tired of that now. We want to get married and get locked down together so we thought we would do this.

‘We couldn’t just have 15 guests at our wedding. We’re too popular for that so we thought we’d have something more flamboyant.’

Elvin tells Metro.co.uk that the prank cost around £250 and took just over a week to put together.

He says: ‘The inspiration for the video was really born out of the struggle of COVID and how difficult it is for people to get married in this climate.

‘I already do comedy sketches and pranks in public places and this idea was one I had in mind to do for a while, but with the pandemic, I thought it was a timely and creative way to do a wedding.

‘I wanted to show that in these times people can still do what they love and turn obstacles into opportunities!’

Elvin adds: ‘I ensured that the cast and guests, for the most part, wore masks and brought some sanitisers with them. We handed out some for those who didn’t have any.’

The ceremony even ended with a ‘kiss’ through two Covid-friendly visors.

For the reception, cupcakes and non-alcoholic drinks were handed out to the ‘guests’ on the train.

In the video, Elvin said the festivities could only go on until 9pm, because: ‘Boris has told us that from 10pm onwards you are more likely to catch the virus.’

Elvin, who mentions Prime Minister Boris Johnson a couple of times in the video in the context of lockdown retrictions, tells us: ‘I know it’s tough job being a Prime Minister and trying to navigate things in this fairly novel pandemic isn’t always straight forward.

‘I would tell Boris that he’s welcome to feature in my next prank, as long he wears a mask and sanitises his hands before giving me a handshake.’

When asked if he would recommend a train wedding to anyone else, Elvin says: ‘Possibly, why not!’

At the end of the video, Elvin jokes about a District Line honeymoon, but sadly it was not to be as all the cast went their separate ways after filming was finished.

Maybe for the next prank?
