One of the best things about being invited to a wedding has to be the meal.
That joyous time between the ceremony and the speeches and the drunken dancing that comes later – the wedding meal is a chance to actually talk to other guests and line your stomach in preparation for the free bar.
There’s often a choice between chicken and salmon, or beef and lamb, and almost always a tempting vegetarian option. Whether it’s table service or a buffet, the food at weddings is typically hot, comforting and at least a little bit fancy.
So, it’s no wonder guests and people on social media were horrified when a bride and group presented a less than appealing looking ‘feast’ for their guests.
Photos show that guests were given some chopped vegetables, a bag of chips, half a sandwich and six small pieces of fruit on two toothpicks.
Which is something you would be happy to find in your lunchbox during your school days – but probably not what you would expect at a wedding.
People were so disappointed in fact, that even a bridesmaid from the wedding took to social media to express her feelings.
‘We get our “food”, which was half a croissant sandwich, fruit on a stick, veggies in a cup and a bag of chips,’ the bridesmaid wrote.
‘None of the chairs matched at the reception.. it’s just looked a mess.’
People on the Facebook group were quick to comment and share their outrage at the unconventional offering.
‘This is literally what I gave my toddler for lunch today minus the chips,’ commented one.
‘Chips! I don’t know whether to laugh or feel sad,’ added another.
‘They couldn’t even spring for a full sandwich? Just half each? Damn,’ said someone else who was less than impressed by the portion size.
‘Yeah, that’s the saddest thing I ever saw that didn’t involve puppies getting hurt,’ said another.
But, of course, a wedding is a celebration of love and isn’t only about the ceremony or the food.
The snacky lunch might have been all the couple could afford, but that doesn’t mean they shouldn’t be able to celebrate their love surrounded by family and friends.
And who doesn’t love a croissant sandwich?
