Sofie Pearson, who lives on a cane farm in Cordelia, New South Wales, is no stranger to Australian wildlife.
But when her toilet wouldn’t flush properly she didn’t realise that the local flora and fauna would be to blame; mainly four snakes holed up in her cistern.
The 25-year-old noticed that she had to push the flush button down extra hard to make the loo work, so opened the cistern to check what the issue was.
In the back of the toilet were four (thankfully non-venomous) snakes ranging from 50cm to a metre, which she promptly got rid of.
Speaking to 7 News, Sofie said: ‘I went to the toilet and then I went to flush it and I really had to push down on the button to get it to work, so I was a bit confused.
‘So I figured I’d just pull the top off and check what the issue was.
‘I sort of looked at them for a second and thought… that’s not right.’
A very Aussie reaction given most of us Brits would have run a mile and potentially burned our house down never to return.
After the shocking discover, Sofie simply called her friend who she said ‘came and wrangled them out for me, because I was not touching them.’
Apparently Sofie believes the snakes came in through cracks in the floorboards of her house, although it’s not clear why they decided to make the toilet their new abode.
It’s thought that they were common tree snakes, which usually reside in crevices of trees and foliage and feed on skinks and frogs.
They were released back into the wild but unharmed. Unlike our mental state after seeing that.
