Today, we bid farewell to a month of foodie discounts, as the government’s Eat Out To Help Out scheme draws to a close.
But some restaurants are extending their offers into September and JD Wetherspoons is one of them.
The pub giant has announced it will be launching a new initiative called ‘Stay Out To Help Out’ from tomorrow (1 September), which will see prices on a range of meals and drinks slashed.
The deals will be available from Monday to Wednesday until 11 November, and Wetherspoons claims some of the dishes will be cheaper than food available at popular takeaways.
Here are a few examples of what you can get and how much it will cost you with the discount:
- 11-inch Margherita pizza with a soft drink – £3.99
- Six-ounce beef burger meal – £3.99
- Deli meals (such as wraps) – from £2.99
- Traditional breakfast – £2.99
- Small breakfast – £2.49
Pubs will also be offering three small plates for £7.50, including nachos, halloumi fries, chicken wings and nine varieties of pizza.
And let’s not forget the mini desserts, coffee or tea and soft drinks for 99p.
However, it’s worth pointing out that alcoholic drinks will not be sold at a cheaper rate on their own – although some are included in meal deals.
Chairman Tim Martin said that customers have loved the government’s scheme for the past month, and that Stay Out To Help Out will be cheaper than fast food favourites.
He said: ‘Our offer means that a classic beef burger in our pubs will be even better value than McDonald’s.
‘The classic burger in Wetherspoon is £3.99 versus McDonald’s Big Mac medium meal (comprising Big Mac two 1.6 ounce beef patties, medium fries, medium Coca-Cola Zero Sugar) which costs £4.59.
‘In addition, cappuccino in our pubs will be 50p cheaper than McDonald’s and our customers can have free refills too.’
Tim also compared prices with Domino’s.
As an example, he pointed out that the Margherita pizza at Wetherspoons, which includes a drink is cheaper than Domino’s two-topping 11.5inch deal – which does not include a drink and costs £5.99.
