From October, you’ll be able to get direct from Amsterdam to London on the Eurostar – and it will cost just £40.

It might not sound new because there has been a route on the high-speed railway from St Pancras to the Netherlands since 2018.

You could travel from London to Amsterdam without stopping but until now, you had an hour-long stop in Belgium for security checks on the return journey.

But UK Border Force officials will now be stationed in Amsterdam and Rotterdam to carry out the checks there.

Eurostar planned to launch the new route earlier this year but it was delayed due to the pandemic.

When it launches on 26 October, you will be able to get between the two cities in just over four hours. You’ll also be able to from Rotterdam to London in three and a half hours.

There will initially be two direct trains a day from Amsterdam to the UK, with plans to add a third and then a fourth in the future.

Tickets will go on sale from 1 September and will costs £40 each way. They can be booked up until February 2021.

Of course it is worth considering that the Netherlands has been re-added to the Government’s quarantine list, meaning you must currently spend 14 days in self-isolating at home when you return.

To protect travellers using the trains, everything will be deep cleaned after each journey and there is a seat map system to encourage social distancing on board.

Mike Cooper, Chief Executive, Eurostar, said: ‘Our services from the UK to the Netherlands have proved very popular with over half a million travellers since launch.

‘Our fully direct service marks an exciting advance for high-speed rail and provides consumers with a comfortable, environmentally friendly alternative to the airlines on one of Europe’s busiest leisure and business routes.’
