Captain John Makowsky and Red Eye the seagull go way back.
The pair have been friends for 15 years since the seagull started visiting John when he was out on the water.
The bird would fly onto the boat and come right up to the window to look at him on his lobster fishing boat.
So when John spotted that Red Eye had an injured leg, he felt he had to help his pal.
John, from Maine, U.S., knew that a seagull wouldn’t live long with an injury like that and he was very upset about the prospect of something happening to his friend.
His wife Debbie told CBS news that it was ‘very, very difficult’ for him.
It even made him doubt how much longer he wanted to do his job.
John said: ‘I don’t know why I was so emotionally crushed, but it was a piece missing.
‘I was beginning to wonder how much longer I felt like doing this.’
So the pair decided to capture the seagull and get her some help.
John took her to the Center for Wildlife in Cape Neddick, Maine, where staff brought her back to health.
While she was there, John brought her brown hake to eat.
Now Red Eye is doing well and is back out at sea – and the incident has just strengthened her bond with John.
She still appears and looks at him through the window every day.
