A £4million penthouse by London’s gory Execution Dock is up for sale

Looking for a new home and got a few million to spare?

If you don’t mind an area with a grizzly past, there’s a gorgeous £4million penthouse up for grabs right by London’s Execution Dock, and yes – it got its name the bloody way.

The luxurious three-bedroom property overlooks the dock by Wapping, which for over 400 years served one purpose: it was the spot where pirates, smugglers and mutineers received the sentence for their crimes, by hanging.

According to history, anyone who committed a crime at sea would be judged by the High Court of the Admiralty, and if found guilty, would be taken here – although it has not been used for this since 1830.

Apart from its gruesome past, the area is actually quite lovely with plenty of pubs, restaurants and shops to enjoy. St Katharine Docks – with its glistening marina – is just around the corner, too.

The home, which is sold through Knight Frank, isn’t bad either.

A converted warehouse flat, the duplex runs over two floors of a Grade II listed property (the top floor and parts of the one below) with over 2,704 sq ft to make your own.

Upstairs, you have the three bedrooms, a reception room and a partially open-plan kitchen.

There are two bathrooms in total, including an en-suite that connects to the master bedroom, a walk-in shower and a freestanding black tub.

Meanwhile, downstairs, there’s plenty more space to utilise in whatever way you prefer; a gaming room, a large reading nook, your own cocktail bar – the options are endless.

As an added bonus, you also get an underground parking spot (notoriously expensive in London) and there is also a lift in the building.

But really, what makes this property shine is the interior features.

Think exposed brick and timber, leaded windows, wooden flooring and a skylight in the largest bedroom.

Our favourite part of the flat however is the red balcony, which faces the River Thames.

While we can’t make any guarantees, we have a feeling you might be able to spot an angry ghost or two from here at night.

If you believe in that sort of thing, that is.
