Woman shares genius hack for closing cereal boxes the correct way

When you think about it, it doesn’t make sense that cereal boxes close with great big gaping holes on the top.

Essentially, that’s because they’re not supposed to.

A woman has shared a genius hack for closing them in the correct way and it’s left the internet shocked.

Becky Holden McGhee posted photos and a video on Facebook, showing how to correctly store cereal boxes – or any boxed food for that matter.

In her Facebook post, Becky says: ‘It’s only taken me 40 years, but I now know the correct way to close a cereal box.

‘Genius. It takes seconds, no more dried up cereal and ugly torn boxes to greet me every morning.’

Becky – who works as a celebrant – explains that she first came across the hack when she was scrolling through social media.

She tells Metro.co.uk: ‘I came across a post of an American lady who had done it and I was like “that looks amazing but I don’t think i’m going to be able to do that.”

‘Because you see these hacks don’t you, but in reality they’re not that easy to do.’

So the following morning, when she was giving her children their breakfast, Becky attempted it for herself – but her effort was met with confusion from her husband.

She adds: ‘So he was just laughing at me, but I was like “no this is great babe because cereal goes all soggy” – so I took some pictures and put them on Facebook.’

It wasn’t long before one of Becky’s friends was asking for a video explaining how to carry out the hack.

‘So in my dressing gown, I got my husband to do a little video because I just thought my friends would see it,’ she adds.

After uploading the tutorial to Facebook, Becky’s post was flooded with comments and praise.

Becky says: ‘I’ve been really lucky as you often see when people post things and sometimes it can get negative.

‘But it’s been amazing. I mean I can’t keep up with every single comment now because it’s gone a little bit crazy, but everyone has just been like “wow” and “who knew?”

‘Loads and loads of people have shared pictures of their own cereal boxes, which is so cute.

‘And I’ve had quite a lot of people from America (who eat a lot of crackers), telling me you can do it on cracker boxes, too.’

Becky says that one Facebook user even replied to her saying the technique used to be published on the back of cereal boxes years ago.

She jokes: ‘I’m the grand old age of 40 but I don’t ever remember anything being on a cereal box.’

Becky adds that’ll she’ll be continuing to use the nifty hack in the future.
