You’ve probably noticed that it’s really tricky to get your hands on a face mask right now.
Luckily, a creative woman who lives in Amsterdam has shared a video showing how to make a face mask using a sock – and it doesn’t require any sewing.
Which is great news if you’re useless with a thread and needle.
Safia Aggoune, a dancer and mother of one, shared the easy-to-follow video to her 2,600 followers on TikTok. All she had to do was make a few simple incisions.

She starts by holding a sock upside down, before trimming half of the foot off.
Next, she makes sure there is an even distance between the top of the sock and the foot from the heel, she slices the sock down the side and opens it up.
How to make a face mask from a sock
Hold a sock upside down and cut off half of the foot section.
Make sure you have an even space from the heel to both ends of the sock, then cut it open down the middle.
Fold it open flat – it should form a rectangle with the heel area in the centre.
Make two incisions, two cm from both sides.
Use the slits to fasten the mask around your ears.
Holding it so it forms a rough rectangle with the heel in the centre, Safia then folds it in half horizontally.
She cuts a slit into both sides, about 2 cm from the edges, before opening it back up.
The two slits then act as elastic and Safia fastens them behind her ears. Et voila! A simple face mask that covers your nose and mouth.
This could be really handy because TFL announced last week that all passengers should be wearing face masks if they’re travelling on the underground.
Officials have stressed that surgical and medical masks should be kept for frontline NHS and healthcare workers, so instead, people are being advised to buy non-medical masks or make their own ones, using materials found around the house.
So now you have a perfect use for all those odd socks at the bottom of your drawer.
Or why not try one of these other simple tutorials, which show you how to make a face mask using a T shirt, bandanna or tea towel.
