Do you want to add some flair to your egg-making?
This weekend and next, we will show you how to poach, scramble, flip and fry eggs like the pros, so that you can have brunch at home while waiting for lockdown to end.
Yesterday, we shared top tips from chefs at Eggslut on how to make creamy, mouth-watering scrambled eggs.
Today’s challenge is less about flavour, and more about fun: we are teaching you how to flip eggs at home like the pros – without breaking the yolk.
What you need
- One egg
- Oil – Eggslut recommend rapeseed oil, but any kind will do
- One small frying pan
How to do it
Eggslut explain:
- Use a small frying pan and cook your egg on medium heat.
- Your egg is ready to flip when it can easily move around in
the pan - Angle the pan down so that the egg moves towards the edge
furthest away from you. - Thrust the same edge upwards in a smooth fast motion, so the
egg flies up in front of you. - Softly catch the egg in the pan, letting it land gently with
the yolk facing downwards - Using the same small motion, thrust the edge of the pan
upwards to flip your egg again so the yolk is facing upwards.
Pro tip: If you want to practice flipping an egg before you start
cooking, try flipping a bread roll in a cold frying pan away from
the oven.
Check back next Saturday (16 May) for your next challenge: how to fry an egg with a perfectly runny yolk.
