Prepare yourself, because this is the food news of 2020: the Colonel is back.

KFC has just announced that it is opening 500 stores across the country, meaning we can once again order chicken buckets to our heart’s content.

The fast food chain closed at the start of lockdown and people were missing their fried goodies so much that they started making replicas at home, with mixed results.

KFC got in on the fun, too, rating their fried chicken on Twitter – with hilarious replies.

A homemade Zinger Stacker burger was also roasted by the fast food giant: ‘This is the saddest thing I’ve seen and I’ve watched the Futurama episode were the dog waits outside for Fry,’ they wrote.

Harsh.

To announce the reopening of the 500 stores, KFC released a video advert featuring some of the best and worst dishes from at-home contenders.

However, even though the chains are once again in operation, hungry chicken lovers are not allowed to pop by.

To get your bucket, you need to order it online for a contact-free delivery.

‘Five hundred restaurants reopening is a huge milestone,’ said Paula MacKenzie, general manager at KFC UK and Ireland.

‘It’s credit to the hard work of all of our amazing teams in restaurant and we wanted to celebrate the moment.

‘We’ve loved seeing the nation’s homemade efforts whilst we’ve been away, so including a few of them in our new ad is the perfect tribute.

‘Some of the creations looked incredible, some less so… now that we’re back on delivery, probably best we take it from here!’

To find out if your local KFC is delivering again, you can use the brand’s store tool.
