It’s been more than three weeks since fast food chains closed their doors due to coronavirus – but now it seems one restaurant is back in business… sort of.
Chicken giant KFC has reopened selected restaurants in the north of England only – which means those living in other cities, such as London, will sadly miss out.
Restaurants in Manchester’s Deansgate and Hulme are the only branches to have reopened. They are currently running with deliveries only, operating with a smaller staff team and serving a limited menu.
A KFC spokesperson told Manchester Evening News that the ‘new procedures’ were in place to ensure the company is following ‘social distancing guidelines.’
What’s more, KFC has also announced that it’s dishing out free meals to NHS staff.
A number of Manchester residents took to Twitter to express their excitement over the news.
One posted: ‘Massive shout out to the key workers at @KFC_UKI best Easter Sunday in years #Manchester #kfc.’
Someone else added: ‘GREAT NEWS TODAY, KFC IN MANCHESTER HAS RE-OPENED #ThisIsWhatTrueHappinessFeelsLike.’
While the announcement of the reopening is good news for northerners, those living in other areas of the UK are dissapointed they won’t be able to get their hands on the chain’s famous fried chicken.
One person Tweeted: ‘My lad who lives in Manchester got a KFC delivered last night !! I’m absolutely fuming, what I would give now for some fried chicken & gravy #KFC.’
While another said: ‘Why is @KFC_UKI open in Manchester and not Leeds.’
It remains unclear whether more branches will reopen as the weeks go on.
