Keeping little ones entertained during quarantine is an exhausting task.

One dad made sure his son would be kept busy for hours on end, by building him an incredible cardboard fort.

Steve Wilson was growing tired of playing board games with his four-year-old, Sebastian, and wanted to give him something new to keep him occupied during lockdown.

As a result, he decided to fashion a fort out of old sandwich boxes and tape.

The 52-year-old built the structure, named ‘Castle Covid’, in a room at his business The Square – a soft play centre in Wells, Somerset, which joins onto the family’s home.

With the soft play centre being closed to the public at the moment, Steve decided to use the party room to house the new creation.

In total, it took Steve four days to build as he turned his attention to every last detail.

Impressively, the finished product includes corridors, turrets, a hiding place and a moving drawbridge.

Steve said: ‘What was going to be a four-hour job turned into days of building.

‘I’ll almost be sad to see it demolished – either by Sebastian from playing in it or when we reopen.’

Pictures of Steve’s efforts were posted on Facebook on Thursday and have since racked up more than 300 likes, with many people praising his creativity and craftiness.

The caption reads: ‘When life gives you boxes…build a castle, obviously!’

One person commented on the snap: ‘That’s totally awesome!”

While another posted: ‘This is fab! Lucky boy!’

A third said: ‘Bit bored Steve?! Hopefully you’ll be overrun with kids soon.’

In other news, one woman is getting through lockdown by wearing a different ballgown to work from home every day.

While another savvy parent turned her unused caravan into a classroom for home-schooling.
