From chocolate eggs to Sunday roasts, Easter weekend is all about the food – which is just as well, as one London hotspot is hosting a virtual food festival to mark the occasion.
Borough Market’s five-day Easter festival kicks off today, featuring talks, masterclasses and cookery demonstrations.
Of course, due to coronavirus, all the events will be online, with market traders and high-profile chefs set to take over the Borough Market Instagram account.
The Borough Market butchers will be kicking things off today (April 9th), at 11am, as they explain ‘what to do with your meat’. This will be followed by an Instagram Live Easter baking session with TV presenter and best-selling author Juliet Sear, at 1pm.
Good Friday – dubbed as Fishy Friday by the foodie hotspot – will see the market’s fishmongers share their top cooking tips at 11am. Afterwards, at 2pm, the Bread Ahead gang will be making hot cross buns live.
On Saturday, the Borough Market butchers will return for another installment at 11am, followed by a cook-off at 12pm featuring cookbook author Lara Lee, food writer Angela Clutton and chef Roopa Gulati.
Easter Sunday will see things quieten down a little – the only event planned for the day is a storytelling session with writer and cook Kate Young.
Easter Monday, however, boasts a jam-packed line-up, with cook Beca Lyne-Pirkis hosting an egg workshop at 1pm, followed by a crumble-themed IGTV with lifestyle blogger Poppy Loves London, as well as a planting session with writer Kathy Slack at 4pm.
In other virtual food news, Greggs is offering DIY tutorials on how to make its famous bakes and Wagamama is hosting workshops explaining how to recreate its popular katsu curry.
