As NHS staff face increased pressure because of the unprecedented strain placed on hospitals in the midst of the coronavirus epidemic, brands have been reaching out to workers in an effort to show solidarity and support.
In addition to supermarkets offering special shopping hours to NHS workers to allow them to pick up essential goods in the morning before the rest of the public and potential panic-buyers enter the stores, many fast-food chains have offered free drinks and food.
So, what are the current discounts available for NHS staff working through coronavirus crisis?

Discounts available for NHS staff working through coronavirus crisis
WHS Smith
WHSmith, who run stores in many hospitals, have said that they will increase the discount for NHS staff in those shops from 10% to 20% on all food and drink for the foreseeable.
NHS staff just need to show their staff ID at the till to get the discount.
Greggs
NHS workers can get a free hot drink at Greggs – all they need to do is flash their work ID.
The chain is still, at time of writing, operating across the country.
Burger King
Burger King posted on Facebook last week that all NHS, emergency and social workers are entitled to a free drink to thank them for their important work.
The post read: ‘From all of us at Burger King, we want to say thank you, to all the incredible emergency services, health and social care workers, for all your efforts to keep us safe and secure at this difficult time. If you show your NHS ID at the counter, drinks are on us. Love BK’
At time of writing, Burger King is open for Drive-Thru and Delivery, so show your ID at the counter, or let them know you are an NHS worker.
Pizza Hut
Pizza Hut are offering 50% off takeaway food to all NHS workers.
According to their website: ‘Just show us your NHS ID Card when you call your local Hut or pop in to order.’
Branches are still open for takeaway collection and contactless delivery.
Leon
Healthy fast food chain Leon is offering NHS staff 50% off food delivery.
They announced the discount on their Instagram where they wrote: ‘NHS workers are toiling around the clock and will be for the foerseeable [sic] future.
‘We want to help them with 50% off, and support those who work in hospitals near to LEON restaurants with free food deliveries.’
The chain is currently offering delivery food but has temporarily changed its restaurants to become shops where they will sell ready-made meals and groceries, alongside their delivery food.
Dominoes
Dominoes announced on Friday that several branches were offering free takeaway pizzas to NHS workers, however, it seems the offer had several teething problems, leading the pizza chain to take to social media to apologise.
They wrote: ‘[On Friday] one of our franchises announced that they would offer free pizza to NHS workers in their 50 stores. It was a great idea, which of course we loved. But we weren’t quite ready to go national yet. And, as it turned out, we weren’t quite ready to go local. Many of the 50 stores haven’t been able to deliver in the way we would like.’
They added: ‘we absolutely want to do something for our communities affected by coronavirus. So we’re going to take a few days and come up with something to express our appreciation.’
Other retailers such as Pret and McDonalds previously advertised offers, but have now shut their doors for the foreseeable future.
