With coronavirus spreading across the UK, you might be worried about who would look after your pet if you were sick.

But the UK’s only purpose build cat hotel has stepped in to help vulnerable people living on their own for free.

Hotel Cat, in the New Forest village of Sway, Hants, claims to have the largest cat suites in the world, which are all decorated with different themes and even have their own full size beds and flat screen TVs.

Hotel Cat’s owner, Jackie Ferrier, said the cattery is putting on the free service to offer help for some people who have no one to look after their cat if they need to go into hospital.

The 53-year-old said: ‘We decided to offer a free service because we want to reach those who are living on their own who are desperately worried about their cat.

‘We want to help the people who wouldn’t go to hospital and who would refuse hospital care because they are worried about their cat. Those are the people we are trying to help.’

Mrs Ferrier, who has run Hotel Cat with her husband Tim Ferrier, 65, for six years, added: ‘Coronavirus means that this is an unprecedented time.

‘If we don’t all pull together now, then what’s the point?’

The facility is a converted barn in their garden, where suites usually cost up to £36 a day.

The cattery offers the choice of eight luxury suites – which are up to 348 sq ft in size – where felines can even watch films specially tailored to cats.

The garden room features sun loungers, scratch pads, climbing trees and toys.

The Royal Mews has an Amalfi Coast wallpaper and playroom.

The hotel’s website says: ‘All of our eight suites have been tastefully decorated to top hotel standards and there are no bars or mesh, just glass doors and double glazed windows so all our guests have permanent visual stimulation.

‘All our guests have china bowls and drink only fresh spring water from our own supply. We also have a fine dining menu for special treats.’
