A thrifty mum has proved that you don’t need to fork out to give your interior a fresh, modern update.

Victoria Robinson wanted to give her daughter’s room a new lease of life but was on a strict budget – so she decided to get creative.

Instead of buying new tins of paint, the savvy mum purchased two black tester pots – for £1 each, and found herself a child’s paintbrush.

Victoria got to work on the room, carefully painting black circles onto the white walls – which created a beautiful hand-painted polka dot effect. In total, it took her around two hours to complete the spotty print.

Once finished, she shared her handiwork in the DIY On A Budget UK Facebook page, which attracted praise from group members.

Victoria posted, ‘Here is my little girls room I managed to do on a tight budget and by myself, me my girls and my four cats and I love to do it all myself.

‘Two tester pots for £1 each and the wall took approx two hours, may have been done quicker but I procrastinate quite a lot.’

Some were quick to ask the imaginative mum just how she created the black dots by hand, to which Victoria replied, ‘Just drew black circles in different shapes…

‘As you can see at the bottom they got bigger as I was getting bored.

‘I used a kids paintbrush and kicked my kids out the room.’

Other were quick to comment on Victoria’s efforts, ‘You did such a great job it looks like wallpaper,’ one user said.

Lots were inspired by the paint effect, with one person replying, ‘I absolutely love this!! May do it for my daughter’s room!’

In other DIY news, a six-year-old decided to fill boxes with dog toys for strangers to use in the park and another imaginative mum transformed an empty cupboard under the stairs into a handy pantry, for just £50.
