Women have reported sketchy Uber and Lyft rides where they’ve felt uncomfortable many times.
In some cases, the drivers themselves have helped women ward off unwanted advances from other men.
As the problem seems to be so prevalent, users on video-sharing app TikTok have started posting an important tip that could be beneficial to passengers feeling distressed.
Teens are pretending to be on the phone where they feign a conversation to throw the driver off and trick them into thinking someone is tracking their location (which is a real option).
Some users performed themselves saying the words while others just provided the audio and script users can follow.
One British user provided an iPhone ringtone and gaps in her speech where you can follow the red script she’s provided.
The dialogue goes: ‘Hey, where are you’ at which point you say ‘I’m nearly home’.
Then she says ‘No you’re not, I can see your location, we downloaded the Find My Friend app’.
After a few seconds of back and forth, the TikTok user then says ‘I’m waiting at home for you, I’ll see you soon’, followed by an end dial tone.
There is also a ‘mum version’ (in an American voice, for U.S users), that you can play.
The way TikTok works, you can save your favourite sounds and play them when you want to make your own videos.
So instead of recording you just hold the phone away from the person and play the sound.
TikTok users are hopeful that it can save them from unwanted harassment.
Other social media users have been applauding the friendly tip shared by TikTokers.
One person wrote: ‘Tiktok is truly saving lives out here’ and ‘Can I just say that this is the best TikTok trend ever?’
It’s certainly very helpful.
Those who want to use audio for less helpful situations can also play the sound of a man pretending to be a booty call to rattle (and tease) their boyfriend.
As we said, it’s less helpful.
