If you have a partner or flatmate who’s always hogging the loo, this might be the passive-aggressive gift for them.

The Toilet Timer is currently going viral online after an article on mummy blogger site Kidspot extolled the virtues of the novelty item.

Touted as ‘The perfect gift for the long poo-crastinator in your life’, the timer has an hourglass that counts down five minutes.

When that sand gets to the bottom, they’ll know it’s time to get out of the restroom. Simple as that.

It does look somewhat ruder, with the sand going from the timer man’s bowel straight into the loo bowl. So it’s definitely one for those who appreciate a bit of toilet humour.

After raising over $26,000 on Kickstarter to create the Toilet Timer, its creators have put it up for sale. You can get it on Amazon for £6.98, and switch designs from man to woman to Donald Trump.

Some of the reviews on the US Amazon listing have praised the ingenious device. One person called it a ‘godsend’ for his family.

He added that the days of ‘lighting a couple of man candles… and checking the scores or fantasy league standings’ are long gone.

According to the makers – a company called Katamco – it’s not just for laughs either.

Apparently gastroenterologists advise people not to sit on the loo any longer than five minutes, as it can ‘prevent fissures and hemorrhoidal bleeding’.

The idea did first come about, though, when inventor Adam stayed on the toilet so long that he got two dead legs.

If that isn’t an illustration of how silly it is to be a toilet-hogger?!

You can find out more about this silly yet useful device over on the Kickstarter page.
