If you have a brother and he doesn’t endlessly taunt you, then do you really even have a brother?
Mendl Weinstock joked with his sister that if she ever got married, he’d be bringing a llama as a guest.
Sister Riva Eisenberg rolled her eyes at the comment and moved on with her life.
But five years later, when Riva got married, Mendl decided to come through on his comment and actually bought a llama as a guest, in a tux. As you do.
The bride was left unamused.
Riva had known to expect something from her prankster brother and when she saw the fluffy animal beside him, agreed to pose for just one photo.
But to her dismay, the picture of her unimpressed face was shared online where it quickly went viral for being potentially the most sibling thing ever.
Inside the wedding venue in Cleveland, Ohio, the llama theme continued as friends bought inflatable versions of the animal to tease the bride some more.
While guests were delighted to have a furry wedding guest, named Shocky, Riva said she would not be engaging with the llama, going near him or petting him.
Tough crowd.
Soon Shocky was returned to his farm nearby after only an hour fraternising with guests.
Mendl, a student, explained: ‘Five years, ago my sister was talking about her wedding as if it were tomorrow when she wasn’t even dating anyone at the time.
‘Just to make her mad and get a reaction I told her if she makes me come to the wedding, I am bringing a llama with me, it was the first thing to pop into my head.
‘She was definitely mad at first, but she came to accept it and realised it was in good fun, she was mostly impressed that I managed to keep my promise from all those years ago.’
The llama was a five-year promise that Mendl made sure he kept to, which ultimately cost him $450 (£350) – though he was prepared to spend more.
Mendl said: ‘Everyone loved it, many of the guests took pictures with the llama and it was the talk of the wedding the whole night, much to my sister’s frustration.’
Riva added: ‘He has been torturing me with this, in good fun, and has been reminding me of this probably twice a week for the last five years.
‘I have tried striking so many deals, I have tried doing literally everything possible to make sure it didn’t happen, and lo and behold, there was a llama at my wedding.’
‘When he sets his mind to something, he makes it happen,’ Riva said. ‘Literally, I called him to tell him I was engaged and his response was, “Great, I’m calling the llama farm now”. Probably not even an hour later, I got a text that said his llama rental was confirmed.’
It’s not the first time llamas have attended special occasions. In fact, there’s a whole Instagram account documenting the party animals at weddings.
There’s also an American animal therapy group that allows you to invite dressed up creatures to your shindigs.
