Coronavirus is the global pandemic making us realise just how important our health is above everything else.
But panic buying has meant food and essential household items are not available which is difficult for the most vulnerable in society, namely the elderly, the immunocompromised who need to stay inside, as well as health workers on the front line.
But where there are crises, there are kind people.
The virus has also bought out some of the best in humanity.
A curryhouse in Leeds, Bengal Cottage, is one of the groups extending their kindness.
The restaurant is offering free rice and curry to the elderly, as well as loo rolls which seem to be unavailable in many supermarkets.
Mohammed Saheb Miah is the owner of the curryhouse, one of the only ones in the village of Micklefield, and promises to have his offer open ‘every day until the virus disappears’.
He tells Metro.co.uk he knows what it’s like to go without after growing up in a single parent Bangladeshi household where his mum was unable to work due to lack of English.
He explains: ‘I used my first-hand experience of poverty and started helping those who need a hand as I think that the government help is simply not enough.
‘So far we’ve had a great response, many can’t afford basic toiletries, the elderly who are isolated, have little if any family members struggle to cook meals hence being the only eatery in the village I have decided to cook and provide food for them for free. ‘
Mohammed and his team have also noticed that other suppliers have increased their prices for coveted items, so they’ve bought a bunch of them, to be delivered to the elderly alongside their meals.
He added: ‘With the recent price hike in local suppliers, it still hasn’t stopped me from carrying on my gesture to all my elderly, it’s more than just a business here at Bengal Cottage. We are one big Micklefield family! I will do whatever I can to support those around me in times of need.
‘I will help the community until it’s out of my capability.’
Such beautiful spirit.
People have applauded Bengal Cottage in their droves, commenting that it’s such a beautiful gesture.
One of the recipients wrote on her Facebook: ‘Just had a knock at our door and wow what a lovely surprise!!
‘Mo from our local Indian Bengal Cottage has brought us a lovely meal. Complimentary! Mo you and your staff are absolutely an asset to this community.’
We really love to see it.
