Coffee shop puts out ad for their ’employee of the month’ to find a ‘vaguely attractive’ woman to date

With so many people to swipe through on dating apps, some people are going above and beyond to get noticed.

Who can forget the man who paid for a billboard to try to get a date?

In another unusual advert, the colleagues of a man who works at a coffee shop are asking customers to help them find him a date – but there’s some quite specific geographical criteria.

The ad is by staff at Black Swan Yard Coffee on Bermondsey Street in London, who are trying to match an employee called Jon Buck.

Although no one is really sure how serious they are being, according to the ad, Jon is 40 and he has lived in the area for a long time but he has never met someone who lives nearby.

In a bid to change this, they said: ‘Dear customer. Do you know any single, straight-ish young women who live on, or around, Bermondsey Street?

‘Jon Buck, Employee of the month at Black Swan Yard Coffe (AKA the Hatch of Dreams) and best known for his excellent customer service with a smile, is single and lives off Bermondsey Street.’

But after the introduction, they went into a little more about what they think he is looking for.

The ad continued: ‘He is ultimately waiting for Katy Perry Garfield to set him free from his slavery in the Hatch of Dreams (a story available to read in the cafe).

‘But in the mean time, he is keen to pass the time on amiable dates with eligible local women partly because having lived off the street for 10 years, he has yet to so much as go on a date with anyone who lives near by. And also because he is lazy and cannot be bothered to walk far or get on the bus to meet people.’

They added that he has three social science degrees from Oxford University, including a PhD, owns his own flat, helps to run an art gallery and he does minor writing and film projects on the side.

Describing his girlfriends in the past, they said: ‘The kind of young woman he has dated in the recent past tends to be in their 30s and vaguely attractive and intelligent.

‘His ex-ex girlfriend was probably too weird and his ex-girlfriend was probably too normal (even if she turned out to be mad) so ideally the sort of young woman he would date would be a bit weird but also a bit normal. But not mad (and not a Friday night office drunkard trying to forget themselves).’

The letter promises a reward for any ‘successful leads’ and is signed off by the management.

But after a picture of the letter was posted on Twitter by Hajar J. Woodland, people responded to say they weren’t impressed.

Hajar said: ‘Today in ‘Why Men?’

Gillian added: ‘Things wrong with this: – the font – the grammar – the description of the exes; if everyone you date is crazy perhaps the common denominator is you – ‘you will be rewarded for any successful leads’ – everything else.’

Amanda said: ‘Dear god. I can only hope this has been done without this man’s knowledge or consent. Otherwise it is tragic beyond belief. Some people watch too many rom-coms…’
