A number of meal prep hacks may seem simple, but they can also be a massive time saver for busy workers and parents.
Having an easy meal ready for you to heat and eat takes the pressure off worrying about daily food shops, and also helps you avoid buying expensive takeaways because there’s nothing in the fridge.
One specific meal prep idea – that doesn’t involve hours spent over the stove – has gone down a storm on Facebook page Aldi Mums.
Sharing a picture of what looked like a normal bread bag, the mum said: ‘Toasties are prepped and ready for the freezer for easy weekday brekkies! Works especially well when your workplace has a sandwich toaster.
‘I just grab one out of the freezer when I’m leaving home and it’s great in the sandwich press when I get to work 20 mins later.’
It doesn’t have to be toasties either – as many of us don’t have the luxury of a toastie maker.
You can just easily make the week’s sandwiches for lunchboxes in one go. Then take each one out in the morning and it’ll defrost in the child’s bag by lunchtime.
Hundreds of commenters on the post thought it was a genius timesaver, with one saying, ”You are a life saver. I did this and it’s perfect for work.’
Speaking about the fillings she used, the original poster said: ‘For those wondering, I’ve just got ham, cheese, red onion and some of the chargrilled peppers from the antipasto section in these ones.
‘I don’t normally use tomato because I’m not a massive fan and I’m not sure how it goes defrosted. I also bought some of the caramelised onion in a jar that I’ll put on the next batch with ham and cheese.’
If you fancy making life easier for various meals throughout the week you can make a couple of breakfast-friendly sandwiches, a couple that work for lunches, and a couple that suit for those late-home-from-work quick dinners.
Stick to using wholegrain bread and include plenty of veggies, and it’s a healthy option as well as one that’s good for your wallet and time.
