A restaurant in Liverpool has garnered criticism online after offering a ‘ladies fillet’ steak on their menu.

The steak, which is 8oz, is smaller than the other meaty offerings at Manhattan Bar and Grill, presumably because women want to keep their waists trim and their table manner in check.

For £18.95, women can have their steak and eat it too, with the dish being described on the menu as ‘One for the ladies. A beautiful 80 cut, cause we can…’

The next size up on the grill menu at Manhattan is the fillet steak, which comes in at 10oz.

The gendered meat was highlighted by food writer Vicky Andrews on Twitter, who accompanied a picture on the menu with a confused looking emoji.

She also tagged in food industry dons like Jay Rayner, Tim Haywood, and Angela Hartnett to get their two cents on the matter.

Needless to say, the responses weren’t great.

Angela Harnett simply replied: ‘OMG’.

The steak itself could be delicious, but the shock appears to come in the wake of numerous products for women that aren’t necessary to be gendered.

Everything from soup to pens have been labelled as men’s or women’s, with no apparent reasons to why.

Metro.co.uk reached out to Karl at Manhattan Bar and Grill for comment. He told us: ‘Wow, this has created some publicity, considering we are a small family run business in Liverpool!

‘We’ve had this steak on the menu since day one (2015) and due to high demand from a lot of our female customers, we named it, the Ladies Fillet.

‘It’s a very, very popular dish and one of our best selling steaks from the Grill section.

‘So, no! I won’t be changing the name, why change something that works?’

Essentially, for those women out there who want a good feed, you may have to renounce your femininity to do so.

Worth it?
