In fact, it has so many beautiful beaches you could return year after year and still find new ones to explore.
So, get ready to update your travel wish list with our pick of the absolute best beaches in Thailand, for every kind of holiday.
The best beaches for… adventurers
Thailand has no shortage of secluded coves and hard-to-reach bays, so adventure is guaranteed. Why not set off on an island hopping tour to experience as many of them as you can?
Railay Beach, Krabi
This incredibly beautiful beach is only accessible by boat, ensuring it remains an unspoiled paradise for visitors. Surrounded by dramatic cliffs and lush rainforest, with the crystal clear waters of the Andaman Sea twinkling in the light, you’ll feel like you’ve found heaven on earth. The views will stay with you long after you’ve left, as will the sight of monkeys swinging through the trees as you soak up the sun.
And if you’re looking for a truly exceptional stay while in Krabi then Centara Hotels & Resorts has four stunning resorts for you to choose from whether you want a private villa, a suite or a luxury spa on site. And of course, they’re all beachfront so you can make the most of the region’s natural beauty.
Morakot Cave, Ko Muk
A trip to Morakot Cave will be the kind of once in a lifetime moment you’ll treasure. This hidden spot is tricky to access but we promise it will be worth the effort! You can only reach this spectacular spot from the sea, but you won’t be getting there by boat… Instead you swim through a small break in the foliage that adorns the rocks of the island of Ko Muk, before emerging into an idyllic lagoon surrounded by high rocks and white sand. Pure magic!
Bottle Beach, Koh Phangan
As Bottle Beach is difficult to get to, not many travellers to Thailand bother to make the trip. But if you’re feeling intrepid then the reward of spending the day on such a remote and tranquil beach totally justifies the adventure you’ll go on to get there. Taking a boat taxi is always an option but for anyone with energy to burn why not hike? It’s about a two hour trek from Haad Khom Beach and relatively hard going, but just think how refreshing that dive into the turquoise waters will be once you arrive. And Bottle Beach may be on the island of Koh Phangan which is renowned for its all night parties, but you’ll feel a world away from the revellers on these secluded sands.
The best beaches for… families
Child friendly beaches are plentiful in Thailand so don’t think twice about travelling to the country with your little ones in tow. Then make a beeline for these lovely family-centric spots.
Kata Noi Beach, Phuket
Head for Kata Noi Beach instead of the nearby (and much, much busier Kata Beach) and you’ll find a relaxing oasis away from the hustle and bustle, making it ideal for families. There are waves to body board at the northern end, as well as calmer waters where younger children can practice snorkelling. Plus, there’s plenty of space on the sand to create a base for a full day of beach fun, as well as sweet shacks selling snacks and drinks.
Klaong Dao Beach, Koh Lanta
If you’ve got very young children then the warm shallow waters and gentle waves at Klaong Dao Beach will be just what you’re looking for. The sand is ideal for building castles and there are even small, non-challenging rocks to explore and play amongst. It’s a long stretch of coastline so you won’t feel too cramped and the restaurants and bars that line the beach serve lots of kid-friendly food too so no need to pack a picnic.
Thong Nai Pan Noi, Koh Phangan
Families with tweens and teens will find the best of all worlds at Thong Nai Pan Noi. It’s a quieter location than you might expect from the party island of Koh Phangan, so is great for a mix of ages and with a diving school, waves big enough to board and jet skis available to hire, you can all do as much or as little as you like.
The best beaches for… sunsets, romance and breathtaking scenery
With some of the most beautiful and awe-inspiring scenery in the world, you’ll find endless opportunities in Thailand for heart stopping romance. Here are just three beaches you’ll fall in love with.
Sunset Beach, Koh Lipe
As the name suggests, this is THE spot to watch a spectacular sunset. Arrive just before dusk and settle back in the sand or on one of the boulders that line the beach and watch the sky turn to crimson. Somehow this beach is still pretty much undiscovered by tourists, so you won’t need to fight for space if you’re looking for somewhere to be alone with the one you love. And if you’re staying on Koh Lipe then experience the other end of the day with an early start at Sunrise Beach. But you’ll be in no hurry to leave once you’ve watched the sun come up over the horizon as this beach also boasts a clear turquoise sea, soft white sands and a chilled out vibe perfect for lounging and soaking up some rays.
Taling Ngam, Koh Samui
For scene-stealing beauty you can’t beat the beach at Taling Ngam. The sand is pristine, lined by jungle vegetation full of exotic wildlife and the view from the shore takes in the stunning Angthong Marine National Park, an archipelago comprised of 42 lush green islands. The sunsets are divine too so why not stay all day?
Hat Khlong Chao, Koh Kood
This is a quiet beach on a quiet island, so is the perfect place to find some much needed peace and a romantic corner of paradise just for two. Not only will you find palm trees and a clear sea, but there’s a nearby waterfall too, to really bring home the tropical nature of your surroundings.
